Dr. Gill calls herself an “ice age ecologist” who studies “mud and mammoths.” She is an Assistant Professor of Paleoecology and Plant Ecology at the University of Maine. As a paleoecologist and biogeographer, she researches how landscapes change through space and time based on climate change and other factors. She was a co-founder of the national March for Science, is on the boards of 500 Women Scientists and 314 Action, is the Vice President of Communication and Public Affairs of the International Biogeography Society. She is an active blogger, and writes about ecology and climate change over time from the last ice age to the present day, and how our understanding of the past can help prepare us for the future. She also writes about Academia, diversity in STEM, science communication, and the occasional dung fungus. She is a very outspoken social media personality, with a popular podcast called Warm Regards.
