Known as “Deepsea Dawn,” Dr. Wright is an American geographer and oceanographer. She serves as Chief Scientist of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), where she serves as an ambassador between Esri and the global scientific community, and as an environmental science thought leader and consultant. In her research, she has conducted fieldwork in some of the most geologically active regions of the sea floor, and has worked in Alvin, the deep-sea submersible involved in exploring the Titanic's wreckage. She is a leading authority in the application of geographic information system (GIS) technology to the field of ocean and coastal science, and played a key role in creating the first GIS data model for the oceans. She has authored or co-authored more than 130 articles and five books and has participated in over 20 oceanographic research expeditions worldwide.
